- Physical custody, legal custody: In most Oklahoma divorce cases that involve child custody, one parent has physical custody, but both parents may share legal custody. Physical custody determines where the child will live most of the time. Legal custody gives the parents the right to make decisions about education, religion, medical care and other matters.
- Joint custody: When the parents agree to joint custody, the child will often spend an equal amount of time with each parent. For joint custody to work, the parents must have a high level of cooperation.
- Split custody: In some rare cases, the court may agree to split child custody - one or more children live with one parent and other siblings live with the second parent. Courts generally do not order split custody.
